Reading
Blessed Sacrament Catholic Primary School achieved the ‘Reading Quality Mark’ Silver Mark in February 2015. It is an award for schools in Liverpool who come up with exciting ways to teach Reading. At Blessed Sacrament Catholic Primary School we love to read and reading for pleasure is crucial to the ethos of our school.
Our motto is
‘Let’s Keep Reading Alive!’
Reading Ambassadors:
In each class there is a Reading Ambassador. This person has the important job of encouraging Reading in their class and sharing any important news from our Reading Ambassador meetings. We have a Reading Ambassador meeting every half term. Our recent meetings have involved talking about our library that we are hoping to redesign. We have decided to have a woodland theme. The children have all recommended a book that they would like to purchase for the library. We will keep you updated!
Reading Revolutionary Roadshow:
In the Autumn Term 2014 we had the Reading Revolutionary Roadshow in our school. We beat lots of other schools to get this and it was a fantastic opportunity. 20 children in Years 3 and 4 were selected to become Reading Revolutionaries and had training for 3 days to learn to become a Reading Buddy. The children are now fully trained Reading Buddies and are in Years 5 and 6. They meet on a Tuesday in the school library with their Reading Buddy from Nursery, Reception, Year 1 or Year 2. They read to each other, talk about books and carry out lots of fun Reading activities. Keep up the good work Reading Revolutionaries! Have a look at them in action below.
Reading Events:
At Blessed Sacrament Catholic Primary School we love to take part in Reading events and competitions.

Roald Dahl Day
On Tuesday 13th September we celebrated Roald Dahl Day. Children and teachers dressed up as their favourite Roald Dahl character. We had a school full of munchkins, Mr Twits, Mrs Twits, Willy Wonkas and more! During the day we had Mrs Fitzgerald our school Governor came in and read her favourite book ‘The Enormous Crocodile’ to children in Year 1. We also had 2 special assemblies, one in KS1 and another in KS2. We played a character quiz and showed off our costumes.

Read, Steady, Read
From Thursday 13th October to Thursday 20th October there we held a sponsored read called ‘Read, Steady, Read’. This is to celebrate and encourage a lifelong love of reading at home and school and to help raise money for our library. The project is being organised by Miss Ambrose and our local Usbourne representative. So far we have raised £202!
